Island - ein Naturparadies

DE: «Ach ja, du bist Fotograf? Dann warst du bestimmt schon etliche Male in Island». Solche oder ähnliche Aussagen höre ich als passionierter Naturfotograf immer wieder. Aber bis zu diesem Jahr musste ich die Frage leider immer mit einem schüchternen «NEIN» beantworten.

Island, wie ich es aus TV-Doks oder aus Social Media kenne, faszinierte mich schon immer. Unglaubliche Landschaften, faszinierende Weiten, rauhes Klima und extreme Gegensätze. Der jedoch überdurchschnittlich wachsende Massentourismus hatte mich bisher stark davon abgehalten. Der Reiseboom wurde vor allem aufgrund des bekannten Vulkanausbruches des Eyjafjallajökull im Jahre 2010 sowie die für die Isländer erfolgreiche Fussball EM 2016 beflügelt. Und dann kam das Virus, welches die Welt veränderte: Corona. Wenn nach Island, dann jetzt. So mache ich mich mit meiner besseren Hälfte Sandra am 20. August 2021 für 3 Wochen ins Land des Feuer und Eises. Nachfolgend findet ihr ein paar Impressionen. EN: "Oh, you’re a photographer? Then you must have been to Iceland many times." I often hear such statements as a passionate nature photographer. However, until this year, I had to answer with a shy "NO."

Iceland, as I know it from TV documentaries and social media, has always fascinated me. Incredible landscapes, vast expanses, a harsh climate, and extreme contrasts. However, the rapidly growing mass tourism had strongly deterred me until now. The travel boom was mainly fueled by the famous volcanic eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in 2010 and Iceland's successful football performance in the 2016 European Championship. Then came the virus that changed the world: COVID-19. If there was ever a time to go to Iceland, it was now. So, on August 20, 2021, my partner Sandra and I set off for three weeks to the land of fire and ice. Below are a few impressions.
